Dior, Chanel, Hermès... for this fall, the brands are bringing their it-bags up to date. Our selection.
THE LITTLE CLASSIC1983. Karl Lagerfeld, the first stylist to succeed Coco, takes over Chanel and propels the label into orbit. As soon as he arrived, the German designed the Classic, a quilted leather bag on a chain strap and whose clasp takes up the signature double C. Here it is, in a slightly different format, adorned with a ruffle on the shoulder. €3,500. Tel: 0800 255 005.
THE BIRKIN 35 CARGO1984. Jean-Louis Dumas, president of Hermès, meets Jane Birkin on board a plane. The Englishwoman complains of not finding any bag for her daily life as a young mother. He imagines the Birkin for her. This season, this tote of incredible luxury that has become a legend, is renewed in canvas and leather, multi-pocket, equipped with a removable cup holder. Price upon request. Tel.: 01 40 17 47 17.
THE BAGUETTE1997. It owes its name to its elongated shape and the way it is carried, wedged under the arm... like our baking specialty. Created by Silvia Venturini Fendi, the Baguette lends itself to all the whims of the Roman designer. If it has never left the leather goods shelves, it is back these days in an elegant pearl gray, fully knitted. €2,300. www.fendi.com
NEO-CLASSIC2000. Recognizable at first glance, the Classic by Balenciaga has entered the history of the it-bag (and of fashion). Reviewed and corrected by Demna Gvasalia, this urban bag in riveted leather is intended to be rigid (its elder was soft). Cut in new proportions, and with galvanized metal jewellery, it comes back in three sizes and a multitude of colours. €1,690. www.balenciaga.com
THE SADDLE2000. Dior launches a saddle-shaped bag, worn on screen by Sarah Jessica Parker in Sex and the City. The success is immediate and planetary. Relaunched with great fanfare in 2018 by Maria Grazia Chiuri, the Saddle is warming up this fall with a soft woolen skin, still with the D as a stirrup. €3,200. Tel.: 01 40 73 73 73.
